We can help you procure your compound, using multiple search tools and vendors we have strong past experience working with. Vendors whose molecules are already in hand. Our help can save you time and money. For molecules that are not commercially available, we can research the ease or complexity of synthesis based on literature and our experience.

Compound Synthesis and Analoging

If required, we will work with you to design a synthetic plan that meets your research objectives. We research synthetic routes and can arrange for custom chemical synthesis of your molecular probe molecules.

Our focus is the design and SAR of molecular probes for evaluation of new target concepts rather than final drug optimization. As a follow-up to your biological assay, compounds are evaluated based on their chemical suitability for your project and poor or frequent hitters identified. Crucial to this design process is a thorough understanding of the structure-activity relationships of the active compounds and the ability to expand the hit set using computationally-based virtual design and screening techniques. Improved molecular probes can be designed and their synthetic routes planned. We typically arrange to manage the synthetic work with one of our outside custom synthesis firms but also do special synthetic work in-house.

How our charging works

It’s important that our collaborators understand the nature of chemical research and how we charge for work conducted by YCMD chemists. For compound optimization studies we will draft a research plan for your approval outlining each major synthetic undertaking prior to beginning research. We include a good-faith estimate of the costs involved, and the collaborator will be invoiced monthly for accrued billed hours and reagents, regardless of research outcome. For singleton synthesis of a literature compound we also provide an estimate and will charge monthly for work performed toward a target molecule. We will notify the investigator as early as possible if it appears a published synthetic route cannot be reproduced and work to devise an alternate synthetic plan. In some cases we may alter a published synthetic route when we believe it is advantageous to do so. We will keep the collaborator informed as to the progress of the chemistry and the accrued billed hours. Synthetic work may also be out-sourced to contract-chemistry services and YCMD chemistry will both design a synthetic route and manage the synthesis with the contractor. Work performed by contract synthesis services outside YCMD is billed to include the contractor’s rate and any synthetic route design we may provide. Reagent costs are normally included in the contractor’s quote. We have relationships with several excellent and and will charge monthly for work performed toward a target molecule.
